Movement-Driven Visuals for Schaeffler’s Booth at Automechanika 2024
For Schaeffler’s booth at Automechanika 2024 in Frankfurt, I developed movement and audio-reactive showpiece that combined acrobatics and interactive visuals.
The key to the setup was using an Azure Kinect to track the movements of Anna Winter, a trapeze artist performing in front of three large LED walls. Everything was rendered in real-time with TouchDesigner, driven by Anna’s movement and positioning. Music, visuals, and lighting were all synced up, creating a tightly integrated experience.
Managing Screen Resolution & Setup
The screen setup was particularly interesting (and challenging) due to its size and resolution. The combined resolution of all three LED walls ended up being 9600 x 2496 pixels, spanning nearly 20 meters in width. The Video-Team received 4x4k HDMI Outputs from my System and mapped it to the LED-Wall to avoid any introduction of latency. Aligning everything smoothly across such a large area took some problem-solving, but it was worth it for the final effect.
